SOCIAL REHABILITATION

  With a view to bring back the gas victims in the main stream of the society, social rehabilitation programme was launched by the Government.  The following benefits/services were provided to the gas victims:-


ACTIVITIES COMPLETED
:

  • Widow Pension:
    Widow pension was provided to 1077 widows of the gas related deaths @ Rs.200/- p.m. and a total amount of Rs.1.75 cores was disbursed.
  • Education
    11 Schools (5 primary and 6 middle schools) were constructed and 6 schools were repaired and upgraded.To educate the Gas victim children the Department has VACATED the Claim Courts Buildings and developed as educational/social institutes. 15 such institutes have been established. Moreover, in the year 2001 as per decision taken in State Advisory Committee for Bhopal Gas victims other Claim Courts which were VACATED by the Welfare Commissioner have been allotted for school, college and other Government organizations.
  • Free Supply of Milk
    Free milk (150 ml. Per head per day) was supplied to expectant and nursing mothers and children upto the age of 6 years through 5 ICDS projects (792 Anganwadis in the town).Milk distribution for pregnant mother and children upto 6 years of age initially for 3 years had been carried out for which an amount of Rs.22.00 crore had been spent.
  • Orphans
    27 Orphans were maintained since 1984 to 2000 (approximately Rs.16.25 lakhs were spent).2 houses have been allotted to gas victim orphan children.
  • Widow Housing
    2486 houses were constructed and distributed to relatives of gas victims died of MIC exposure, out of which 2435 houses had already been allotted.   Out of remaining 51 housesRest 33 houses are in progress of allotment to the eligible families/dependents of victims. Presently 18 houses are vacant .
